Beginner Solo Practice

Latin Beginner Follower Solo Practice

Latin Beginner Leader Solo Practice

Step drills and timing exercises are two of the effective ways to practice on your own without a partner. There is a follower and a leader solo practice lesson for beginners.

Cross Body Move

Latin Improvers Cross Body Move (This dynamic move is taught so that you can use it in rumba, salsa or cha cha.)

The cross body move (also known as the cbm, cross body lead or dile que no) is a popular social move. It is dynamic and gives the follower the chance to do an energetic movement past their leader. It creates future opportunities to add travelling turns. My experience is that most people find it easiest to dance in rumba and find they can do it in salsa after a few practice sessions and finally in cha cha after a few more.

Improver Solo Practice

The solo practice lessons for follower and leader include faster music and more rapid changes in move compared to the beginner lessons.

Improver Timing

Latin Improver One or Two

Some dancers will make the first movement (which I often refer to as "off the piece of paper") on the first beat of the bar and some on the second beat of the bar. These each create a very different look. Many people believe their way is the only way but the reality is that different people dance it differently. I personally like to vary between the two options depending on who I am dancing with and the music being played.
